Vajrasattva

Vajrasattva is revered in Tibetan Buddhism as the deity of purification and inner transformation. His name combines “Vajra” (diamond or thunderbolt, symbolizing indestructible purity) and “Sattva” (being), reflecting his essence as the embodiment of pure awareness. Depicted as serene and white in color, Vajrasattva holds a vajra at his heart and a bell in his left hand, symbolizing the union of wisdom and compassion.

Central to Vajrayana practice, Vajrasattva is invoked to purify negative karma, emotional obscurations, and past misdeeds. Practitioners chant his mantra—“Om Vajrasattva Hum”—during meditative visualizations to cleanse the mind and return to innate clarity. As a guardian of spiritual integrity, Vajrasattva is especially vital in preliminary practices (ngöndro), helping prepare the mind for deeper realization on the path to enlightenment.
